More than 380 business meetings, talks and discussions on sustainable construction of the future

More than 380 one2one business meetings, presentations and keynote speeches by leading representatives of the construction and architecture industry, dialogue panels, networking but also experience intermedia with wine and olive tasting as well as golf composed the two-day Building & Construction Summit @ Costa Navarino organized by the Boussias Events on 24 and 25 October 2024.

It is a unique initiative in Greece that was established with the aim and vision to become the annual rendezvous of the construction industry.

40 and more decision makers, including senior architects, construction managers, development directors, head of construction projects, contract and procurement officers, CDO, CIO, property development experts and many others spoke with over 35 leading suppliers from the building materials, building systems and equipment industry in targeted meetings.

The Building & Construction Summit @ Costa Navarino received excellent feedback from participants, with the majority of them calling for the summit be organised on an annual basis.

Keynote Speech by Luca Bertalot General of the European Mortgage Federation - European Covered Bond Council (EMF-ECBC)

"Real Estate Development and Construction 5.0 in the era of Quantitative Tightening: the framework of problems and solutions"

The Keynote Speaker at the Building & Construction Summit @ Costa Navarino, Mr. Luca Bertalot Secretary General of the European Mortgage Federation - European Covered Bond Council (EMF-ECBC), transfers a message from the Brussels environment at the Summit.

Is the Green Deal of the EU Commission a realistic goal?

70% of the built environment in our EU Ecosystem, needs retrofitting, be taxonomy compliant and the banks need to adapt at the BASEL III framework, to assess the value of a Construction loan. How this can happen in a high debt and quantitative tightening environment, when owners lose 25% of their portfolio capital, also to maintain their sustainable business with high cost operations.

In higher urbanization rates, but also higher construction and RE development and operation needs, we must look for innovative financing to finance investment towards the new requirements of the built environment. One of the organizations that can finance those targets, is the EMF-ECBC (European Mortgage Federation - European Covered Bond Council).

Mr. Bertalot sends us a message: we can change the world in a pragmatic way, to create the hope for the new generation through a revolution, brought by financial innovation to run operations in RE and Construction, inspired by the Ancient Greece urbanization model.

That is why the EMF-ECBC (European Mortgage Federation - European Covered Bond Council) brings in Athens on the Spring of 2025, 200 bankers at the ECBC Plenary Meeting, to show them that Greece is back on track!

"In a market where the power now lies with contractors and suppliers rather than project employers, the backlog of major construction will either be delayed or not done and this applies to private projects as well," Panos Panayiotides said.

The key to moving forward with the projects is proper studies and resolved commercial issues. The other projects will not be given the market's choice, he adds. Panagiotidis CEO Grivalia Development in one of the most interesting posts on the subject.

Ο George Tsolakis of Tsolakis Architects notes that the problem of freelancers such as architects is managing resources, time and potential in the overwhelming demand of the supply of works. And he applauded Panagiotidis' view on Design, Licensing and most importantly: the adaptation of legislation and administrative regulations for the implementation of projects to the requirements of modern Greece.

Ο Ioannis Orfanos, Arbitrage Development with unique knowledge of all areas in construction and with extensive experience in project finance and management, asked questions that elicited very original answers that we don't hear at the usual conferences.

Closing Keynote Speech & Fireside Chat

O κ. Theofanis Bobotis, Founder Bobotis + Bobotis Architects, on the subject of "The Architecture behind the image" spoke in an apocalyptic way about sublime concepts such as the metaphysical, the contrast between patterns and reality in Architecture, the rationale of Spatialism in Architectural Design, how the elements of human history finally converge in Design.

Architecture is the symbiotic relationship between man and space. We therefore have a synthetic process of osmosis of the humanistic (Architecture) and the applied, which ensure Well-being through Design,.

Mr. Bobotis then discussed the factors that contribute to Urban Redevelopment Design with mixed use office, residential and shopping centers and provided a very interesting objection as to whether LEED ultimately serves absolutely, well-being, in human living in space.

Finally, together with Mr.. Yofcio CEO Ten Brinke Greece, they spoke about technology in construction, the cooperation between the Architect and the Developer, the impact on the environment, cost forecasting at all stages of design, insisting Mr. Bobotis on the advanced final design and up to the Implementation Study together with the Developer. Mr. Yoftsios agreed with the previous speakers at yesterday's Panel with Mr. Panagiotopoulos, CEO Grivalia Development especially, and Mr. Ioannis Orfanos that yes, many projects will not be implemented, but we are living our dream in terms of Real Estate Development.
