How it works

In the case of a concrete wall which starts from the foundation and reaches up to 50cm above the natural ground, care should be taken to protect the materials against soil moisture by the proper placement of the waterproofing layer. This layer follows after the appropriate preparation of the wall (cutting and sealing of the hairline, smoothing of the surface) and should consist of two or more layers of bituminous membranes or cementitious or asphalt-based sealants.

The thermal insulation layer is placed on top of this layer, which is glued on top of the waterproofing layer with a special adhesive polyurethane-based foam. This is followed by a layer of geotextile of sufficient length to encapsulate the next layer.

At the base of the foundations, where the thermal insulation layer stops, a drainage pipe is placed that collects the run-off water in a sump equipped with an extraction pump that drains it to the sewer. Above the pipe there is a stone groove which is covered by the continuation of the geotextile whose end meets the beginning.

The geotextile interrupts the continuity of the soil capillaries and protects the drainage pipe from clogging. The geotextile is filled with soil up to the desired soil level.

In the peripheral underground walls it is recommended to use the pressed expanded polystyrene of very low water absorption PERIPOR EPS 250 or ISOPOR EPS 200 in the appropriate thickness according to the KENAK.
