Use of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) in the foundations of buildings and other infrastructures

The exceptional properties of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) and its resistance in humidity, in time and in fungus, makes it an exceptional material, with long-lasting performance in foundation applications.

Foundations using the old method:

Steps

  • Preparation of the foundation soil
  • Pouring of levelling concrete
  • Preparation of the foundation’s mould
  • Placement of the steel reinforcement
  • Pouring of the foundation’s concrete without covering the upper part of the steel reinforcement
  • Dismantling of the foundation’s mould
  • Filling with soil of the foundation using mechanical means and graded materials
  • Layers of 30 cm – Addition of water - Compression
  • Placement of steel reinforcement of the foundation floor
  • Pouring of the foundation’s floor concrete

Problems:

  • Basements without thermal insulation
  • Bending of steel reinforcement for the filling with soil
  • Covering of the foundation joists with dust and rubble
  • Time-consuming work
  • Use of many different subcontractors
  • Higher possibility of mistakes

  • Placement of the EPS dipol® Geofoam
  • Foundation material in the desirable compressive strength 30 - 500 kPa
  • Placement of steel reinforcement of the foundation floor
  • Pouring of the foundation’s concrete in one step
